Leisure Center Café is looking for an experienced Chef/Cook to join the team.

The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of work experience in a fast-paced cafe or restaurant environment and be able to work independently and in a team. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to connect with a wide range of clients, including seniors. Experience in volunteer work, baking, nursing or home/hospital cooking will be highly considered.

Daily responsibilities include:

Quality and control of food supply, food preparation and related procedures.

Distribute a variety of hot/cold starters/desserts for dinner service to approximately 100 guests at a time.

Ensuring dishes are consistently well presented and delivered in a timely manner.

Create workstations and supervise team members to prepare food.

Control inventory and orders for all food items needed for day-to-day business operations.

Maintain a hygienic, clean and organized kitchen environment.

Location: Balranald NSW 2715 (1 hour from Swan Hill VIC)

What will you do

Provide effective and efficient food service, including meals for sick and elderly residents

Ensure proper use of equipment and chemicals and prepare all culinary requirements such as meat, poultry, fish, cake, pastries and pies in accordance with Far West LHD Occupational Health and Safety Guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures and Food Safety and Nutrition.

Be sure to complete the Food Safety Compliance and Meal Statistics Form daily.

Participate in daily cleaning of work areas and follow strict work area hygiene protocols in compliance with infection control policies and procedures.

Selection criteria

Previous commercial catering experience or demonstrated ability to cook large quantities and special diets.

A certificate in the application of hygienic food safety practices or a willingness to obtain such a certificate.

Demonstrated knowledge of food safety legislation, including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles. Possess a solid understanding of occupational health and safety, including principles of infection control and hazardous manual work.

Ability to work with unsupervised staff capable of working shifts, including early risers.

Experience in inventory control, ordering and sizing.

Ability to work with cultural sensitivity.

Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
